Falling Between The Cracks

I chose the topic, Falling Between the Cracks, because I can relate. I don’t mean skipped, but forgotten. What I mean is everything in this world has guidelines, rules, laws…at least that I know of. For example, let’s use good old fashioned dollars. Today’s world or even 20 yrs. Ago a dollar couldn’t buy a lot. Even so much less now. Everything has changed in the world.

Falling Between The Cracks picture.

One scenario such as someone working but can’t do a full 40 hours a week for medical reasons. Doesn’t collect a Social Security check and does what this person can, to stay in communication with the outside world for different reasons than work: such as human contact. Without human contact, this person might have more medical issues. If the person just gave up without trying, and having the knowledge to survive, things would be different.

This person doesn’t make enough money to rent an apartment by themselves, too much to get Social Services to help pay the rent. As I was saying before, there are laws…that would help a worker that works in the Social Services Department determine a yes or a no, for helping anyone that needed it. They would also tell them how much over their guidelines they were, in order to get help from them. That’s a perfect example of falling through the cracks! It could be as little as $5. That is just sooo crazy!

Craziness is Falling Between the Cracks

This person has the knowledge and contacts as far as what to do next. So, they make call after call, it seems like it’s going nowhere. Then someone mentions housing developments. They get a list to call, finally they get approved for H.U.D. (housing and urban development). Now this person has to contact these landlords to make sure they accept H.U.D. If not, then they have to keep going down the list to hopefully find one that does. If not, and H.U.D. doesn’t have any other lists then what? Fall between the cracks. Yet, again.

This is a prime example of falling through the cracks. Stuff like this is happening more and more everyday, you might not know unless it hits home. But it is happening!! So, now what? It doesn’t feel like the people that can make a difference are going to, as long as it’s not them or anyone they know.

No one wants to look at the homeless people, let alone try and do something about it. I believe everyone thinks it’s because they want to be in that situation. I personally don’t agree. But who is going to ask them and try to help them? Again, they have fallen through the cracks, it might not be their fault. No one seems to care about it so they aren’t going to try and get them something they need! There are so many issues that need attention now, it’s almost impossible to get to something like this. Shameful.

This by no means is a direct intentional hit towards anyone, just trying to wake people up and help in any way possible. I’m just trying to get people aware that the world that they live in hasn’t been right in so many years. I’m not trying to be political by any means! Simply trying to get my point across. And, food for thought. Check out these statistics!

H.U.D. programs for the year of 2022 was $ 8.6 billion Nationwide.

Homeless people for 2022 were 582,462. Nationwide.
